Methodology

Our Environmental Impact Assessment methodology

The assessment process runs from project registration through to the point where the environmental certificate is processed.

The EIA Process

From registration to certificate

Tanzania's EIA process has three principal stages. At each stage the responsibilities of the client, the consultant and the regulatory authorities are distinct.

  1. Step01

    Project Registration

    Client

Provide the necessary project information and pay the registration fee (Tsh. 200,000/=) before the report is submitted.

    EDLA CONSULT

Prepare the scoping report and the registration form for submission to NEMC.

    Regulatory authority

NEMC reviews the submitted project and issues the screening letter together with an invoice for the review cost.

  2. Step02

    Stakeholder Consultation & EIA Report

    Client

Provide the necessary project information and pay the review cost established by the council.

    EDLA CONSULT

Arrange stakeholder consultations and prepare the Environmental Impact Assessment report for submission to NEMC.

    Regulatory authority

NEMC conducts site verification at the client's cost and issues the official letter with comments.

  3. Step03

    Final EIS Report & Certificate

    Client

Provide the information needed to address the comments raised by the council.

    EDLA CONSULT

Address the council's comments in the final report and submit it to NEMC for EIA certificate processing.

    Regulatory authority

NEMC reviews the final EIS report before it is submitted to the responsible minister for certificate processing under the Environmental Management Act, 2004.

EDLA CONSULT prepares and submits the required documentation and supports the review process. Statutory review, approval and the issuing of the environmental certificate rest with NEMC and, where applicable, the responsible minister under the Environmental Management Act, 2004. EDLA CONSULT does not control or influence those decisions.
